2-day INtro to Digital Negatives
and Platinum palladium printing workshop
This workshop is designed for people who want to started making digital negatives using QuadToneRIP and my QCDN software.
We talk about what goes into making a good digital negative, and I take you step-by-step through my process to quickly develop a set of profiles without a lot of trial and error or manual calculations. We will be using a standard Palladium and NA2 printing method but the concepts and curve creation methods are transferable to silver gelatin or any alternative process you will want to explore.

Topics will include:
Profiling and calibrating digital negatives with QuadToneProfiler-QCDN to easily find your base exposure and your initial blocking density to your final linearized curves
Introduction to platinum-palladium printing to demonstrate effective coating, exposing, and processing techniques to ensure reliability and repeatability
We will make digital negatives with UltraChrome K3, and then compare them with prints made with PiezoPro dual-quad, and customized Piezography K5/K6 + CMY ink sets to help you consider your options when choosing printers, papers, transparency material, and ink sets
Visual step wedge evaluation and measurement workflows for a range of devices and software
Learning to see the differences between prints and develop the vocabulary to describe print quality
Optimizing your files for printing—with special attention to soft-proofing, final contrast corrections, resizing, and sharpening
Color management for black and white and digital negatives

Sunday: 9AM–5PM
Location
The workshop will be held at my studio in the SoHa Arts Building in Haddon Township, New Jersey.
Travel, Meals, and Lodging
There will be coffee, tea, and light pastries in the mornings with light snacks and drinks throughout the day. Lunch is provided by and will be delivered to the studio.
I can recommend several good local cafes and diners for breakfast and restaurants for dinner.
After signing up, you will be sent a list of recommended lodging options and directions.

Cancelation Policy
I will refund 100% of the fee if I need to cancel the workshop for any reason. I will refund 100% of the fee if you cancel more than 21 days in advance (or within 21 days and I can fill your spot). If it is within 21 days and I can't fill your spot I will credit it toward a future in-person workshop or remote 1-on-1 sessions. I can not provide a refund or credit if you cancel within 7 days of the workshop.
